The human nature has a built in desire for beauty and anything that is pretty! That makes flyers a success and that is why flyers will always be successful in marketing and that is why the value of flyers as a marketing medium will never fade…
Wow, that’s a mouth full about a few splashes of ink on a piece of paper in exactly the same way as millions of moons ago. Lots of things have changed in marketing, but the production of flyers has not changed, neither human behaviour in response to flyers, neither their value as a marketing medium. Why and why not? Because people have not changed in terms of their desire for beauty – we still have the desire to see something beautiful and pretty and we will be – forever. Let’s elaborate on this point for a moment.
Desire for beauty.
In general, people prefer to look at something pretty and beautiful, rather that something ugly and horrible. Let’s take a few examples: Men prefer more to look at beautiful woman or cars more than, well, less beautiful woman or a forklift; woman prefer more to look at a beautiful dress, clothes, jewellery more than work-wear; most of us prefer to look at a beautiful nature scene, and even put it as a screen saver on our computers, more than a crash scene of a helicopter in a warzone. Even employers want “beautiful people”; We like to see something of beauty and pretty – and that is exactly what flyers do – if they are designed and presented in the right way. Flyers put something beautiful and desirable in front of your eyes.
But we can get all the “desire for beauty” with other mediums like the internet and electronics screens – why do we need flyers? That is partially true: The true part is that we can get it on electronic screens, but the advantage of flyers over electronic screens are – time and location.
Time and Location
When you walk down the high-street a flyer gets handed out to you about a special deal at a shop nearby. You can read it on the spot and react to it immediately. Perfect timing, perfect location: no effort for the consumer to respond to it. What will happen if you get that same flyer information in your email at home, x-miles away from the shop, maybe two days before or past the offer date? It will probably go straight to the delete box past the junk-mail folder. We don’t walk down the high-street with our iPads which flash all the specials in the shops as we walk along – at least not yet; but we will get a flyer there; and posters, which brings us to the next topic: Flyers and Posters together!
